Brooke Harris was raised in Lee and currently resides in a suburb of Portland, Maine. She is the daughter of Randy and Patricia Harris and has one younger brother, AJ. She graduated from Lee Academy in 2008, where she graduated in the top five of her class. There, she was involved in Music, Civil Rights, Student Council, and Theatre, and served as her Class Vice President. As a daughter of an Athletic Director, she has always been an avid athlete as well. Brooke was a member of seven Maine High School State Championship teams, earning at least one in every sport she played: Soccer, X-Country, Basketball, and Softball. She was inducted into Lee Academy’s Athletic Hall of Fame in 2014.
Brooke then went on to graduate cum laude from University of Maine Fort Kent with her Bachelor's degree in Nursing. There, she competed at the collegiate level for the Soccer and Basketball teams, winning the USCAA Women’s National Soccer Championship in 2013. She was also a member of the Student Nursing Organization and served as their Student Activities Coordinator.
Brooke has merged her passions for the beauty industry and healthcare by balancing her time as an Aesthetic Nurse in Portland’s prestigious Akari salon, and as a travel Nurse in acute care through MAS Medical Staffing. She feels most fulfilled when serving others and has known she wanted to be a nurse since kindergarten.
Brooke enjoys spending her spare time with her family and friends, exploring all that Maine’s outdoors has to offer, and volunteering for Silent Sidekicks animal assisted therapy organization with her dog, Sheldon. Last year, she was crowned Miss Maine USA and represented her state at the Miss USA competition, which aired live on FOX on May 14, 2017. She spent her year as Miss Maine USA 2017 working with numerous non-profit organizations within the state, as well as across the country.
This will be Brooke's first medical mission. She is eager to continue serving others as a Nurse Volunteer on this year's mission trip. Her heart has always been with children. She is especially excited to host the First Annual HAND-Philippines Gala this April to fund the rebuilding of community child-care centers and feeding programs to combat malnutrition among preschoolers in underserved rural areas in the Philippines.
She plans to attend graduate school in the near future to earn her Doctorate and become a Certified Nurse-Midwife with dreams of one day opening her own women’s birthing center! Your sponsorship towards her first medical mission trip is greatly appreciated!
